When it comes to keeping your grass lush and green, there are an endless number of lawn care measures that can be taken to achieve this. One of the most tried-and-true methods of reviving the health and appearance of your lawn is core aeration.

Core Aeration 101: What to Know

What is core aeration?

Core aeration is the process of loosening surface soil by making small holes throughout your lawn. The hollowed-out tool used to perform this leaves small “cores” of soil throughout your yard, which decompose on their own within a couple of weeks.

Why should I get core aeration services scheduled?

Over time, the weight of things like outdoor furniture, lawn equipment, and pedestrian traffic can cause the soil of your lawn to become compressed. Soil that is tightly compacted together has a harder time allowing moisture, nutrients, and oxygen to circulate. Moreover, it’s difficult for plant roots to penetrate and grow deeper in soil that has little room for movement.

When should I aerate my yard?

The best time to aerate your yard is when your lawn is experiencing its peak growing season so that the grass can quickly regenerate and fill the holes.
